CHARLESTON, Ill. –
Kylie Michael and
Laurel Bailey finished with double figure kills on Monday afternoon for Eastern Illinois but the Panthers could not overcome some solid attacking by Morehead State as they lost 3-0 in Ohio Valley Conference volleyball action.

Morehead State swept the two match series over the weekend winning 25-16, 25-22, 25-23 on Monday at First Mid Court at Lantz Arena. MSU is now 2-0. EIU fell to 0-2.

Bailey had five of her 11 kills in the opening set but five early team attack errors by the Panthers put EIU behind 13-7 in the match. Lauren Rokey had kills on two of three MSU attacks late in the set as the Eagles pushed their lead out to 20-12. Olivia Lohmeier would score the final two Morehead State points with kills as the Eagles hit .435 in the opening set. EIU finished the set strong after the five attack errors, the Panthers did not have an attack error for the final 21 points of the set.

In the second set Morehead State was able to separate themselves with a two point lead after the two schools were tied at 7-7. The Eagles extended that lead to 14-10 with EIU then narrowing the margin back to one point on kills by Michael and
Ella Collins. Collins had three kills on six attacks in the set while Michael had six kills in the set. MSU would extend the lead back out to several points leading 19-15 on a kill by Lohmeier. Rokey added two late kills in the set to finish with six in the set and 13 in the match.

Morehead State built a 14-6 lead to open the final set with Andrea Grimes serving for seven straight points for the Eagles. Rokey had two kills in the run with Grimes dropping in one of six service aces Morehead State had for the match.   A
Kylie Michael kill ended the Morehead State run as Michael had seven of her 13 kills for the match in the set.  With Morehead State leading 20-14,
Ashley Sharkus served the Panthers back within striking distance at 20-18. Morehead State had four straight attack errors leading to EIU points with
Emily Wilcox and Bailey combining for a block for one point.  Â
Lynsey Steffen would then serve EIU to within one point at 23-22 as Michael had two kills and Collins one. Lohmeier would end the match with a kill for Morehead State as she had 13 kills.

Collins had nine kills on 15 attacks for a .600 attack percentage. Sharkus had ten digs to lead EIU while
Bailey Chandler had 31 assists.

Bridget Bessler had 39 assists for MSU while Allison Whitten led the Eagles in double figure digs with 12.
