PARK FOREST, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis closed out the 2021 season on Friday afternoon with a non-conference match at Chicago State.
After winning the opening point with a win in doubles, EIU was not able to hang on in singles action as CSU claimed the 6-1 win. EIU ended the regular season at 4-14 overall.
In doubles play EIU was able to pick up the win with play at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.Â
Christos Kyrillou and
Thomas Wallace won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles followed by
Daniel Hernandez and
Charles Courteau winning 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
CSU won the first points in singles play with wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles.
In No. 1 singles, Kyrillou won the opening set in a tiebreak over Jakov Suler and lost the second in a tiebreak before Suler won the final set. Scores of the No. 1 singles match were 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-5), 10-4.
Wallace pushed his match at No. 3 singles to three sets against Jesus Perez Plaza before falling 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Courteau closed out play at No. 2 singles losing 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.
