FROM THE KICK

In the second half, the Panthers found themselves breaking for the goal early with the ball in
Julian Smith's possession. Smith found Allen for a goal in the 45th minute of play. Axthelm kept the pressure on the Leathernecks as he took a shot that ricocheted into Smith and led to an Axthelm goal, putting the Panthers in the driver's seat. Burke recorded seven saves in the second half of play to keep Western Illinois at bay. The Leathernecks managed a goal in the 89th minute of play, but EIU held on to get the first win of the season.
