Eastern Illinois men's basketball head coach
Marty Simmons has completed his first coaching staff with the addition of Quinn Peterson.

Peterson comes to EIU following two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Missouri where the Tigers advanced to this year's NCAA Tournament and were ranked for a large portion of the 2021 season. During his time with the Tigers program, Peterson helped in all aspects of the program including working with All-SEC players Dru Smith and Jeremiah Tilmon.

Prior to his time at Missouri, Peterson worked as the head boys basketball coach at Walter Payton College Prep in Chicago from 2015-19. He won more than 60 games as the head coach with conference championships in 2016 & 2019.  During that same time frame he worked as the Director of The Brudas, Inc., a non-profit youth basketball organization founded by former NBA player Iman Shumpert.Â

Peterson earned his bachelor's degree from DePaul and while working towards that degree he began his coaching career working as the assistant varsity boys basketball coach at Oak Park-River Forest High School working with summer camps.  From 2011-2015 the team posted 79 wins and a pair of IHSA Regional championships. Â

Peterson also holds a masters degree from Concordia University in Chicago and is nearly completion of a second masters degree from Missouri in 2021.
