EIU drops its second straight match against the Sycamores of Indiana State Sunday evening. The Panthers lost a close match 3-1 with scores of 19-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-25. Eastern is now 7-3 on the season.
The Panthers started off the first set with 11 kills, and found themselves up 17-13 behind
Danielle Allen's five kills. Indiana State battled back with the help from a 12-2 run that resulted with a first set win for the Sycamores. EIU'sÂ
Summerlyn Smith added eight assists while INSU had four players have at least three kills.
In the second, Eastern battled tough in a close set that results in a 20-25 win for the Sycamores.
Kameryn Sillmon and
Kylie Michael both had three kills. The Panthers ended the set with 12 kills and hit .171 percent. Indiana State was led by Mallory Keller with three assists, and as a team had a .323 hitting percentage.
Eastern battled back in the third taking their only set of the night winning 25-23.
Kaitlyn Flynn had six kills out of 15 for EIU in the set while Allen added four more. The Panthers had their best hitting percentage of the night in the third with a .200. Smith also collected seven assists and
Lorraine Perez had seven digs and three assists.
The Sycamores took the final set by a score of 15-25 in the fourth. EIU had 10 kills compared to Indiana State's 15 during the set. Michael had four kills on seven attempts. Indiana State was led by Karinna Gall in the fourth with five kills.
The Panthers were led by Allen with 12 kills, Flynn and
Emily Wilcox with 10 kills, and Smith with 23 assists. They posted a .151 hitting percentage and a .938 reception percentage. EIU also posted four total blocks on the night.
The Sycamores saw Kaitlyn Hamilton and Gall have 13 kills each, and Chloe Mason have 32 assists. Indiana State had a .287 hitting percentage.
EIU returns to action on Friday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. to start their Ohio Valley Conference schedule against Murray State.
