DEKALB, Ill. -Â Eastern Illinois men's tennis played a pair of matches on Tuesday facing UIC and Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Ill.
In the opener EIU lost to UIC 5-2.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead winning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.Â
Leighton Brandon and
Pau Riera played at No. 1 doubles picking up a 6-4 win.Â
Charles Courteau and
Max Pilipovic-Kljajic won at No. 3 doubles 7-5 to give the Panthers the early point.Â
Christos Kyrillou and
Thomas Wallace were leading their No. 2 doubles match 5-4 when EIU picked up the win.
In singles play, UIC would win five of the six singles contests.
Wallace won at No. 5 singles with a three set win over Artem Iermolov. Wallace won 3-6, 6-1, 10-7.Â
Riera playing at No. 4 singles also pushed his match to three sets before losing to Kevin Kruzel, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.
EIU faced Northern Illinois in the night match falling 4-1 to the Huskies.
Wallace picked up his second win of the day with a win over Luke VanDonslear at No. 5 singles. Wallace won 6-2, 6-2.
Wallace and Kyrillou played at No. 2 doubles and were leading 5-4 prior to NIU clinching the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
In singles play Pilipovic-Kljajic played at No. 6 singles with a competitive two set loss to Jacob Krefting. Krefting won 7-5, 6-4.
EIU (0-4) returns to action this weekend with three matches facing Chicago State, North Dakota and Marquette.
