MOREHEAD, Ky. – Eastern Illinois (13-11, 7-4 OVC) lost in four sets to preseason favorite Morehead State (11-11, 7-4 OVC) in match two of a weekend series. Panthers lose back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference matches for the first time this season. The set scores were: 33-31, 27-29, 21-25, 22-25.
The EIU offense had 59 kills on the day with a hitting percentage of .169. Morehead State had 67 kills with 25 attack errors and a hitting percentage of .246. The Eagles had a match high 75 digs compared to the Panthers 65.
Giovana Larregui Lopez had a team high 19 kills to lead EIU on the day. Larregui Lopez was second on the team with a .366 hitting percentage while
Lilli Amettis had a team high .435 hitting percentage with 12 kills.
Kaitlyn Flynn continued her streak of double digit kills with 14. Her streak extends to a season high 12 double digit matches. The trio of Flynn, Lopez and Amettis combined for 45 of EIU's 59 kills.
Sylvia Hasz had a career night with 24 assists to lead the Panthers. She set a career high in assists and a career high in digs and aces with nine and two.
Catalina Rochaix also posted 21 assists for the night.
Emily Wilcox and Flynn also posted two service aces each.
Christina Martinez Mundo had a team high 18 digs in the match. She has posted double digit digs in all but one match (Illinois- nine). Seven Panthers recorded at least five digs in the match against the Eagles.
The EIU defense came to play with 10 blocks on the night.
Annika Black and Wilcox each had five total blocks while middle blocker
Ireland Hieb recorded four.
Morehead State was led by Irene Wogenstahl led the entire match with 21 kills. She also recorded nine blocks to lead all defenders. Bridget Bessler recorded 46 assists for the Eagles. Sydney Wyman also had 18 kills while Peighton Isley had 17 digs.
The Panthers will be back in action next weekend for a double header at Tennessee State. Livestats and ESPN+ will be provided.
