As the Ohio Valley Conference celebrates its 75th anniversary this academic year, we look back at Eastern Illinois part in that history each Tuesday
Erica Gerth was dominant for Eastern Illinois volleyball during her four-year career with the Panthers. As a senior she swept the OVC's Major Awards winning OVC Player of the Year for volleyball, being named an OVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2004-05 and closing the year being named the OVC Female Athlete of the Year.
Gerth finished her playing career twice earning first-team All-OVC honors and ranking fifth all-time in the OVC in career kills. As a freshman she helped EIU win the OVC Tournament and make the program's only NCAA Tournament appearance to date. She was a two-time Academic All-American and earned AVCA All-Region as a senior.
Gerth became the second EIU volleyball player to earn OVC Player of the Year honors joining Sherry Austin who won the award in 1998.
