BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois graduate transfer guard Yaakema Rose, Jr., picked a pair of Ohio Valley Conference honors on Monday as he was named the OVC's co-Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week for his efforts in the road win at IUPUI.
In Saturday's game Rose scored his 1,000 career point at the NCAA level as he poured in a career high 27 points. The 1,000 points includes three years at NCAA Division II Missouri St. Louis where he was twice an All-GLVC selection.
Rose was 9-of-15 from the floor, 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 7-of-10 from the foul line during the win. He would pull down a team-high seven rebounds to go along with four steals and three assists.
It marked the second time this season that Rose has scored 20 or more points after a 23-point game at Ohio. It was also his second OVC Newcomer of the Week honor.
Rose is averaging 10.3 points per game as EIU will wrap up non-conference play on Wednesday with a 7 pm game at Iowa.
