ROSEMONT, Ill. – The 2022 softball season opened on Thursday night as Western Michigan scored four runs in the third inning to pick up a 6-2 in over Eastern Illinois.

WMU opened the big inning with a double by Maggie Kehoe. The Broncos would take advantage of an EIU error and some timely hitting to plate four in the inning. Jessica Swinehart and Darcy Barkauskas both drove in two runs in the frame.

The Broncos would add to the total in the top of the six as Alyssa Kramer delivered a two-run homerun.

WMU starting pitcher Reily Galloway was sharp in the early innings allowing only one hit until the sixth.Â
Morgan Lewis had a leadoff double in the fourth but the Panthers were unable to advance her home. Lewis was 2-for-3 in the contest.

The Panthers were able to break through in the bottom of the sixth as
Marama Makea led off with a double. Lewis and
Megan Burton would both drive home runs in the inning for EIU.

Olivia Price was tagged with the loss in the circle for EIU working into the fourth. Galloway scattered four EIU hits while striking out seven to pick up the win.
