Tom Michael has announced the hiring of Dr. Tonya Sawyer as the Panthers new Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator. Sawyer, who currently works at Indiana State, will join the EIU staff in early March.
"I am excited to join Panther Athletics and further enhance the growth and development of EIU's successful student-centered culture," said Sawyer.
Sawyer has worked in intercollegiate athletics at Indiana State for more than ten years. She began her association with the Sycamores Athletic program as a volunteer intern and was hired as the Compliance Coordinator in 2010. Most recently she was promoted to the role of NCAA Compliance Assistant Director at ISU in January 2021 and has served as the primary compliance liaison for women's basketball, baseball, football and track & field.
Sawyer played softball at Saint Mary of Woods where she earned her Bachelor's of Science in 2007; she earned her Master of Science from Indiana State in 2009 as well as her Ph.D. in Philosophy in 2014.
