TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Northern Kentucky pulled out a win in a second set tie-break on Friday afternoon as NKU beat Eastern Illinois men's tennis 4-3 in a match played at the Brickway Bubble in Terre Haute.
Eastern Illinois jumped in front in the match claiming the doubles point. After NKU won the No. 2 doubles match 6-0,
Max Pilipovic-Kljajic and
Tyler Carlin won at No. 3 doubles 6-3 to square the doubles point. EIU would then claim the first point in the match with 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles by
Christos Kyrillou and
Thomas Wallace.
In singles play NKU quickly evened the score at 1-1 with a win at No. 2 singles and took a 2-1 match lead with a win at No. 4 singles.
Wallace picked up his fourth individual win of the spring with a three set win at No. 6 singles to even the match at 2-2. Wallace beat Vincent Knott 2-6, 6-0, 6-1.
NKU regained the lead with a win at No. 3 singles and clinched the match with a two-set win at No. 1 singles as Emilien Burnel beat Kyrillou needing a tiebreak in the second set – 7-5, 7-6 (7-0).
EIU picked up the final point of the match when
Pau Riera beat Santiago Casamayor with Casamayor retiring in the third set. The match score was 6-3, 2-6, 3-3 (retired).
EIU moved to 0-10 on the season while NKU improved to 2-1.
