VICKSBURG, Miss. - Eastern Illinois softball won the first of two on Saturday afternoon beating Alcorn State, 3-2, at the River City Classic II Tournament.
EIU scored first in the contest with
Morgan Lewis leading off with the first of her two hits in the game. Lewis advanced to the third on a single by
Megan Burton and walk by
Hannah Cravens. She crossed on a ground out by
Riley Dittmar, the first of two runs Dittmar drove in during the game.
Tieghan Morio worked into the third in the start in the circle before
Alexa Rehmeier closed out the game pitching five strong innings to improve to 3-0 n the year. Rehmeier entered bottom of the third after Alcorn loaded the bases on three straight walks.
Rehmeier pitched out of the jam allowing only one Alcorn run in the frame. She would finish the contest allowing two hits and one run with six strikeouts. Alcorn's final run in the bottom of the seventh was unearned.
EIU regained the lead in the fourth as
Lindy Milkowski led off with a triple. Pinch runner
Carson Cole scored on an RBI single by Dittmar.
The Panthers final run came in the fifth on an RBI double by
Hannah Cravens that scored Lewis. Lewis reached on a double, her second hit of the game.
