Softball Drops Two At SEMO On Sunday

Redhawks win 7-6 and 8-0 to beat EIU



CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with Eastern Illinois and used that momentum to carry the Redhawks to a game two victory as well.
 
SEMO won the first game on Sunday 7-6 scoring in the bottom of the seventh after EIU has rallied to tie the game in the top of the inning. 
 
The Redhawks would win 8-0 in the second game as they swept the weekend series with EIU to improve to 20-13 overall, 9-3 in the OVC.
 
EIU fell to 21-20 overall, 6-8 in the OVC.  The Panthers will play at UT Martin next Friday and Saturday for a weekend series.
 
SEMO 7, EIU 6
After falling behind 5-0 early in the contest, Eastern Illinois rallied to tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the seventh inning only to see SEMO score an unearned run in the seventh to pick up the opening game victory.
 
The Panthers scored two runs in the sixth to get within one of the SEMO lead at 6-5 as Kendall Fields and Rachel Kaufman hit back-to-back home runs.  
 
EIU tied the game in the seventh on a solo home run by Megan Burton.
 
In the bottom of the seventh Kynzie Wrigley singled and moved into scoring position on a fielding error.  She would come home to score the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Abigail Rickermann. 
 
SEMO jumped out to 5-0 lead in the contest scoring one in the first, two in the second and two in the third.   Kaylee Anderson had her first home run of the day in the first while Aubrie Shore delivered a two-run double in the third.
 
Jaylen Prichard had a two-run double in the top of the fourth to drive in two of the Panthers three runs in the inning as EIU cut into the SEMO lead.  Macey McElravy drew a bases loaded walk to bring home the other run.
 
Maddie Swart and Kaufman both had two hits to lead EIU in the game.  Kaufman took the loss in the circle in a complete game effort falling to 3-6.  Marisa Davis picked up the win for SEMO pitching just 0.2 innings in relief to move to 3-3.
 
SEMO 8, EIU 0
In the second game on Sunday Southeast Missouri carried the game one momentum over as Kaylee Anderson hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to jump start the Redhawks during an 8-0 win.
 
EIU had three hits in the contest against SEMO starter Marisa Davis (4-3) including doubles by Jaylen Prichard and Megan BurtonMacey McElravy would add the other hit with Briana Gonzalez reaching third as a pinch runner in the third.   The Panthers were unable to produce a run from any of those offensive situations.
 
SEMO extended its lead to 5-0 in the second inning with a two-run single by Paige Halliwill.  Halliwill would add a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth which gave the Redhawks a 7-0 lead.
 
SEMO would win the game via run rule in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Abigail Rickermann.
 
Alexa Rehmeier suffered the loss for EIU in the circle falling to 10-6.  Tieghan Morio would pitch 3.2 innings in relief.
 
Halliwill and Rickermann both had two hits to lead SEMO in the game.
