RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Illinois (0-9, 0-4 OVC) finished their weekend at the EKU Beach Volleyball Tournament Saturday afternoon with two close matches against Jacksonville State and Austin Peay. EIU played their closest match yet in their inaugural season against JSU losing 3-2. The Panthers dropped their second match on Saturday by a score of 5-0 against Austin Peay.

Kaitlyn Flynn and Catalina Rochaix won their first career matches during the first match against Jacksonville State. It also marked the first time these two were paired with each other this season. Flynn and Rochaix competed in the No. 5 pairing winning by scores of 21-16 and 21-14.

Elisavet Papageorgiou and Christina Martinez Mundo brought home their second victory of the season in the No. 2 match. Papageorgiou and Martinez Mundo have been paired with each other all season, and have been competitive throughout all their matches. The final scores were 21-17 and 21-10.

Ashley Sharkus and TaKenya Stafford fought hard in the No. 1 match but fell by scores of 21-19 and 21-13.

The Panthers fought tough in their 5-0 loss to Austin Peay to end the tournament. Papageorgious and Martinez Mundo played tough in their final match as they dropped the first set 21-19 and the second 21-14.

Stafford and Sharkus also played a hard fought first set, and almost pulling out the victory. Ireland Hieb and Anna Moster battled through their No. 4 match, as they fell by scores of 21-16 and 21-9.

Rochaix and Flynn continued their excellent play on Saturday as they came close to grabbing their second win of the tournament. They lost a close match by scores of 21-18 and 21-11.

The Panthers will be back on April 22 and 23 as they play their final regular season mathces at the second Ohio Valley Conference Weekend hosted by Austin Peay.
