Eastern Illinois men's basketball coach
Marty Simmons has added a third player to the Panthers spring recruiting class with the signing of guard Kyle Carlesimo.
Â
Carlesimo, the son of former NBA and college coach P.J. Carlesimo, played this past season for coach Jere Quinn at St. Thomas More Prep School in Oakdale, Connecticut.  He helped lead the team to a 25-15 record averaging 19.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game. A shooting guard, Carlesimo (6'2 180) shot 48.7 percent from 3-point range averaging 9.1 3-point attempts per game.
Â
Carlesimo is from Seattle, Wash., where he began his high school career playing for coach Mike Kelly at Seattle Prep.  During the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 season he helped lead his team to an 11-2 record.
Â
"We are excited to welcome the newest member of the Eastern Illinois basketball family, Kyle Carlesimo. Kyle is a smart, tough, skilled guard with a high IQ for the game of basketball. Kyle's gift to shoot the basketball with range and efficiency along with his ability to pass and create opportunities for others will provide him the opportunity to impact our program," said Simmons. "He comes from a well-known basketball family and played at two highly successful programs with great traditions in Seattle Prep and St. Thomas More Prep. He has been a winner at every stage of his career. We are looking forward to having Kyle arrive on campus and begin his career as a Panther."
Â
Carlesimo joins guards Kinyon Hodges (Three Rivers College/Cape Girardeau, Mo.) and Cameron Haffner (Westfield HS/Westfield Ind.) who both signed during the spring period. The Panthers added post player Sincere Malone (We Are United Prep/Chicago, Ill.) during the early signing period in November.
