CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis faced Big Ten member Illinois on Friday morning as the Panthers added a final non-conference match prior next weekend's Ohio Valley Conference Championships in Evansville, Ind.
Illinois won the match 4-0 with three of the singles matches left unfinished after the Illini clinched the match with wins at No. 1, No. 6 and No. 2 singles.
Leighton Brandon lost in two sets to Hunter Heck at No. 1 singles with Heck currently ranked No. 65.Â
Christos Kyrillou lost in two sets to Olivier Stuart at No. 2 singles with Stuart currently ranked No. 61.
The three matches left unfinished were
Cameron Slabbert a No. 3 singles,
Charles Courteau at No. 4 singles and
Pau Riera at No. 5 singles.
Illinois won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 doubles match with Courteau and Slabbert was left unfinished.Â
EIU ends the regular season at 3-21 and will play next Friday afternoon in the OVC Championships. Illinois improved to 11-13 and will host a pair of Big Ten matches later this weekend.
