MOREHEAD, Ky. - Eastern Illinois beach volleyball (0-15, 0-8 OVC) ends it inaugural season of beach volleyball at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships after being eliminated in a double elimination tournament by #2 Austin Peay in Morehead, Ky. EIU battled all season competing in every match during their first season.
In their final match of the season, EIU competed in all five sets during their match against Austin Peay. Number one pair
TaKenya Stafford and
Ashley Sharkus played close against APSU's Marlayna Bullington and Kelsey Mead but fell in the finall set by scores of 17-21 and 9-21.
Christina Martinez Mundo and
Elisavet Papageorgiou, who won the first ever match at the OVC Tournament, lost in two sets to Austin Peay's number two pair by scores of 11-21 and 12-21. Mundo and Papageorgiou as a pair went 3-8 on the season.
Kaitlyn Flynn and
Catalina Rochaix were competitive throughout the season and the OVC Tournament. In their final match they took the number five pair to the brink with scores of 19-21 and 11-21. Rochaix did not play with the team in the fall, and started her career in beach volleyball.

The Panthers started the season playing #10 Missouri Baptist in Chesterfield, Mo. and lost 1-4. Martinez Mundo and Papageorgiou were the first pair to win this season in that match by final scores of 21-14, 15-21, and 15-10.
TaKenya Stafford and
Ashley Sharkus both won two matches this season while
Emily Wilcox, Flynn and
Ella Collins all won one match during their inaugural season.
EIU volleyball will return in the fall for indoor volleyball.
