MOREHEAD, Ky. - Eastern Illinois beach volleyball (0-14, 0-8 OVC) lost their opening round matchup against host team Morehead State by a final score of 1-4. Despite the loss, the Panthers will have another opportunity to advance in the double elimination tournament.Â
During the Panther's first match against Morehead State,
Christina Martinez Mundo and
Elisavet Papageorgiou took the only match for Eastern Illinois in three sets. The number two duo won by scores of 23-21, 19-21, and 15-13. The pair moves to 3-7 overall on the season. Martinez Mundo and Papageorgiou are the first ever EIU duo to win a match in the OVC tournament in school history.
Kaitlyn Flynn and
Catalina Rochaix were in a heated battled in the number five spot with set scores of 15-21 and 18-21. Despite the close match, this drops the pair to 1-3 on the season.
