NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois softball had its late inning rally come up just short on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers lost the final game of their weekend series at Belmont, 10-8.
 
EIU fell to 23-29 overall, 8-17 in the OVC.   Belmont improved to 30-12 overall, 20-5 in the OVC.  EIU will play its final three OVC games of the regular season next weekend hosting Tennessee Tech at Williams Field.
 
Trailing 5-0 heading into the fifth inning, EIU cut the Bruins lead down to 5-4 as the Panthers scored four in the frame.  Kendall Fields started rally driving in a run with a fly out.   Lindy Milkowski then delivered a three-run home run to pull EIU within one run.
 
Belmont responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth taking advantage of two EIU errors in the inning.  Gabrielle Givers had a two run single as the big hit of the inning while Cheyenne Cavanaugh would drive home one run and come home to score on a wild pitch.
 
EIU cut into the Bruins lead in the sixth scoring four runs.  Jaylen Prichard had a solo home run, while Macey McElravy had a two-run single.   Fields capped the EIU scoring with her second fly out to drive home a run.
 
No Panthers player finished with multiple hits as EIU was held to six hits by two Belmont pitchers.  Milkowski drove in three runs with McElravy and Fields both finishing with two RBI for EIU.
 
Cavanaugh and Kristen Green both had three hits to lead Belmont. 
 
Emma Summers improved to 13-6 with the win in the circle.  Rachel Kaufman fell to 4-9 with the loss.
