CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's soccer surrendered a first half goal for the first time this season and it proved enough for Western Illinois as the Leathernecks won the in-state battle 1-0 as both teams wrapped up non-conference play on Friday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
Â
EIU will open Ohio Valley Conference play with a 2-2-4 record while WIU will enter Summit League action at 2-3-3.
Â
The lone goal of the match came in the 15th minute as Amy Andrews tucked a right-footed shot just inside the near post off an assist by Hana Daoudi.  Andrews would provide two of WIU's three shots on goal in the match.
Â
EIU would have an early chance of its own as
Ella Onstott had a header off a corner kick by
Amanda DaSilva that WIU goalkeeper Isabel Navas Rodriguez made the save on.
Â
Michaela Danyo would be credited with EIU's other shot on goal in the contest as the Panthers had seven total shots in the match.
Â
EIU allowed just five goals during the non-conference season including opening the year with a program record four straight shutouts.
