CHICAGO, Ill. - Eastern Illinois (2-4, 0-0 OVC) lost their final match at the Windy City Invitational to Pacific University (3-3, 0-0 WCC) by a final score of 3-0. The Panthers were held to only 20 kills in the match while the Tigers hit 39 against the EIU defense. The final set scores were: 14-25, 17-25, 15-25.
The Tigers defense was able to contain outside hitters
Giovana Larregui Lopez and
Ella Collins, limiting them to just six and four kills each. Collins led the team in hitting percentage with a .111 while the team hit for -.020. Pacific hit .253 against the Panther in the match.
Elisavet Papageorgiou was second on the team in kills with four while also picking up 10 digs to lead the team.
Catalina Rochaix set up 13 out of 20 kills for the team while
Summerlyn Smith and
Sylvia Hasz collected three and two assists each.
Christina Martinez Mundo was second on the team in digs with nine. The Pacific offense never hit below a .179 in a set.
Emily Wilcox led the way on defense at the net with two block assists while
Lilli Amettis and
Annika Black each had one.
For the second straight match, EIU lost the battle at the serve after giving up eight to the Tigers of Pacific. Eastern managed to gather two service aces, one from Rochaix and one from Hasz.
Pacific was led by Alexa Edwards on the attack with 17 kills and a .275 hitting percentage. Jenna Heller led all setters in assists with 30 while also picking up seven digs. Jaydn Tubbs hit 17 digs on defense to lead her squad.
EIU will be back at Lantz Arena for their next match on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. versus Western Illinois for International Student's Day. This marks the Panthers home opener for the 2022 season. LiveStats and ESPN+ will be made available.
