ON-TAP: Eastern Illinois leaves Charleston, Ill. for the first time this season as they head to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Indiana State University (ISU) John Gartland Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21 starting at 11:00 a.m.
This marks the first time since the condensed 2021 indoor season that EIU has participated in the ISU John Gartland Invitational. Eastern indoor track will be on the road for their next five meets.
EIU JOHN CRAFT INVITE RECAP: The Panthers held their second indoor track meet of the season last Saturday as multiple Panthers earned victories to start out the new year.
Bradley Olysav made a big impression in the weight throw during the meet as his distance of 18.70 meters (61'04.25") now puts him fourth all-time in Eastern Illinois history. It marks the farthest throw since the 2012 season.
Jahleel Perrin went back-to-back in field events during the John Craft Invite as he took the gold in the men's 60 meter dash with a time of 6.85 and won the 200 meter with a finals time of 22.43.
Rylea Borgic earned her first ever indoor track first place finish in the 800 meter with a time of 2:28.85.
Mackenzie Aldridge lso won the 3000 meter with a time of 10:08.95.
Akiya Kollore (8.73) and
Shanisa Stinson (8.86) also placed one and two in the 60 meter hurdles for the Panthers as EIU would place a total of 23 first place finishes.
OVC TOP FIVE: Multiple Panthers are in the top five of their respective events in the OVC after the first couple weeks of the season. Six Panthers currently rank first in their events after their performances in the EIU Early Bird Meet.
Jahleel Perrin (6.85), Cameron Yarborough (6.89) and
Brailyn Johnson (6.93) rank first, third and fifth after their performances this past week in the 60 meter dash.
Ricky Johnson (21.54) still leads the OVC in the 200 meters while Perrin ranks fourth with his time of 22.04. R. Johnson's time ranks 47th in the NCAA.
In the 800 meter,
Isai Morales joins the top five rankings with a time of 1:59.31. Jamie Marcos lands two spots in the top five this week, leading the conference in the mile (4:08.69) and the 5000 meters (14:00.24). His 5000 meter time ranks 34th in the country.
Joshua Whitaker also joins the list in the mile. He currently ranks fourth in the OVC with a time of 4:19.22. Three different Panthers made the top five in the conference in the 3000 meter with
Adam Swanson (8:25.56),
Richie Jacobo (8:28.32) and
Andrew Pilat (8:34.19) all cracking the list.
Riley Baker (8.31) and
Jekeel Suber (8.34) currently rank third and fourth in the OVC in the 60m hurdles. Baker most recently hit his time at the John Craft Invite.
Porter Conroy ranks third in conference in the high jump with a mark of 2.03m.
Ramsey Hunt takes the fourth spot in the conference in the long jump with a distance of 7.30m.
Bradley Olysav now ranks third in the weight throw after his performance in the last meet while
Matthew Gladieux (15.63m) ranks fifth in the shot put.
On the women's side,
Zakiya Johnson ranks fourth in the 200 meter run with a time of 25.26. She also now ranks fourth in the 400 meter after her 57.49 time at the John Craft Invite.
In her first indoor meet of the season,
Sarah Carr currently ranks first in the mile with a time of 5:01.65 which is eight seconds better than second place.
Mackenzie Aldridge also ranks third in the OVC in the 300 meters.
Kollore and Stinson sit in the first and second place in the 60m hurdles in the OVC with times of 8.54 and 8.69.
Hallee Thomas also ranks fourth in the pole vault (3.36m)
NEXT UP: The Panthers will head south of Illinois to Kentucky as EIU will part take in the Louisville PNC Invite hosted by Louisville University on Jan. 28.
HEAD COACH: Keith Roberts was hired as Director of Track & Field at Eastern Illinois in August of 2021. Roberts enters his second year at Eastern after becoming the fourth director of track & field in the school's Division I history. Last season, Roberts produced two OVC Athletes of the Year in
Dustin Hatfield and
Lindsey Carlson in 2021. He coached both the men's and women's team to USTFCCCA Team All-Academic Honors. The EIU program produced six NCAA West Regional qualifiers in 2021-22 in
Riley Baker (400 hurdles) and
Akiya Kollore (100 hurdles / 200 dash).
