Eastern Illinois concludes its three game OVC road swing on Thursday night facing Southern Indiana for the second time this season. EIU lost both road games last weekend in Tennessee falling to 7-14 overall, 3-5 in the OVC. The Panthers, who won just one road game last season, are looking to snap a ten game OVC road losing streak dating back to last season. EIU does have two non-conference road wins this season at IUPUI and Iowa. The Panthers won the first meeting between the schools, 91-80, on New Year's Eve in Charleston. USI enters as the hottest team in the OVC having won four straight to stand at 12-9 overall, 5-3 in the OVC as part of a six-way tie for first place in the league standings.
HODGES NAMED OVC NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Kinyon Hodges continued his torrid scoring pace as he won his second consecutive OVC Newcomer of the Week honor. Hodges scored over 20 points in both weekend road games as he has scored over 20 points in three straight games. He opened the week with 22 points at Tennessee State before posting a season-high 25 points on Saturday at UT Martin. Hodges was 10-of-11 from the foul line at UTM and is shooting 71.9 percent from the stripe this season. Hodges ranks in the top ten in the OVC in scoring and field goal percentage.
THOMAS WINS THIRD OVC FRESHMAN HONOR
Kyle Thomas was named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week collecting the honor for the third time this season. Thomas scored a season high 16 points on Thursday at Tennessee State going 6-of-7 from the field. On Saturday at UT Martin he scored seven points while matching his season high for rebounds with seven. For the week Thomas shot 60 percent from the field as he is shooting 48.9 percent for the season. He added three steals and two assists as part of his weekly totals.
