Men’s Soccer Drops Conference Match To The Flames

Panthers return to action on Sunday hosting Chicago State

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Eastern Illinois men's soccer team dropped its fourth OVC match this afternoon, as the Panthers could not stop the Flames of Liberty from going up on the scoreboard four times. EIU now sits at a 1-4 conference record while Liberty improved to 3-2.

Liberty started the match strong on offense, as the Flames were up 2-0 with less than ten minutes on the clock. The first goal came in the 3rd minute of the match with Michael Huss while Gora Gora scored the second goal five minutes later, in the 8th minute. The Flames were able to find one more goal before halftime with Grayson Gardner in the 37th minute. EIU's best chances of the half came with a shot by Anton van Efferink and a header from William Bruce, but both off target. 

Although the Panthers were able to better neutralize the Flame's offense in the second half, Liberty still found its last goal in the 88th minute with Matthew Torrell, to defeat EIU 4-0. Julian Smith with a shot on target for the Panthers in the second half. 

EIU was outshot by Liberty, 12-3.

Up next: The Panthers will close the weekend hosting Chicago State on a doubleheader with the women's team on Sunday, Oct. 15th. Kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
