EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – On a night where, Eastern Illinois struggled to shoot the ball, the Panthers found other ways to stay competitive during a 67-58 loss at SIUE in the OVC opener for both teams.
EIU shot 31 percent for the game and opened shooting 20 percent in the first half.  The Panthers had a great night from
Kyndall Davis scoring a career-high 23 points of the bench.
In the opening half Davis keyed a 7-0 run that gave EIU a 16-15 lead as Davis knocked down a 3-pointer and had a lay-up. The Panthers took their one lead of the game at 16-15 on a
Jaylin Gibson lay-up midway through the first half.
SIUE led by as many as ten points in the first half and held a 33-27 lead at the break.
In the second half, EIU cut the lead down to two points on three occasions but could never tie of take the lead.  Davis had a jumper and free throw on two different possessions to trim the lead to two.
The final time came on a jumper by
Nakyel Shelton.
Corey Sawyer Jr was the only other Panther in double figures with 11 points.Â
EIU ended the night with an edge in rebounds winning the battle on the glass 37-35 with 15 offensive rebounds.Â
Kooper Jacobi had seven rebounds.
Four SIUE players finished in double figures led by Damarco Minor with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
EIU is now 6-8 overall, 0-1 in the OVC.  SIUE is 8-6, 1-0 in the OVC.Â
