Softball Suffers Pair Of One Run Losses

ElU falls to Green Bay and Incarnate Word by one run in each game



SAN ANTONIO – Eastern Illinois softball had a pair of tough luck losses on Saturday during day two of the Incarnate Word Tournament.  The Panthers lost both games by one run as they fell to 0-4 on the season.
 
Green Bay 1, EIU 0
 
Eastern Illinois softball lost a 1-0 contest to Green Bay on Saturday afternoon as the Panthers continued play in the Incarnate Word Tournament. 

Green Bay scored the only run of the game in the first inning as Lauren Porter picked up the first of her two hits on the day for the Phoenix.  Porter drove home Jadin Justman.

EIU would put runners on second base four different times in the game but could not manufacture the key hit to tie the contest.  EIU had five hits in the game, all singles.   Morgan LewisAmber CieplinskiLindy MilkowskiBriana Gonzalez and Maddie Swart all had hits for the Panthers.

Daleny Chumbley (0-1) opened the game in the circle allowing the one run.  Alexa Rehmeier would pitch four innings of scoreless relief for the Panthers.

Brittany Baneck(1-0) pitched six innings of three hit relief for Green Bay as they improved to 1-3.
 
Incarnate Word 3, EIU 2
 
In the night cap, Incarnate Word scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up a 3-2 win over Eastern Illinois.
 
Avalon Sanchez had an RBI single with one out in the inning to score Baylee Lemons with the run unearned following an error earlier in the inning by EIU.
 
Maddie Swart helped manufacture both EIU runs during the game. She would reach on a fielders choice in the top of the fourth to score Olivia Price and give EIU an early 1-0 lead.
 
Swart had a sacrifice fly in the sixth which scored Denaed Santini and tied the game at 2-2.
 
Incarnate Word would score in the fourth on an RBI single by Ryleigh Mata and in the fifth on an RBI single by Kendall McGary.
 
Mata was 3-for-3 for the Cardinals while Lemons was 4-for-4.
 
Price suffered the loss in the circle for EIU while Annie Gunther picked up the win at UIW moved to 3-1 on the season.
 
Jaylen Prichard and Santini each had two hits to lead EIU.
