Softball Shuts Out Grambling To Win Mardi Gras Classic

Panthers beat Grambling 3-0 on Sunday



BATON ROUGE, La. – Eastern Illinois pitching staff turned in another gem to close weekend play at the Mardi Gras Classic as EIU shutout Grambling State 3-0 to win the event with a 5-0 record.

Tieghan Morio and Alexa Rehmeier combined for the three-hit shutout in the circle.  Morio (1-0) went four innings scattering three hits.  Rehmeier closed out the final three innings with no hits and six strikeouts to pick up the save as EIU moved to 5-5 on the year.

Kendall Grover provided EIU all the offense it would need in the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning.

EIU added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh.  Briana Gonzalez doubled and came around to score in the sixth.  Macey McElravy had a solo home run in the seventh.
