DANVILLE, Ill. – Eastern Illinois picked up a win in singles play by
Thomas Wallace but could not secure additional points during a contest with several close matches against Chicago State. At the end of the day, CSU picked up the 6-1 win at the Danville Tennis Center.
Chicago State clinched the doubles point winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by scores of 6-3 in both matches. EIU's doubles team of
Pau Riera and
Alex Dinkov was tied 4-4 with Arhaan Pahwa and Rodrigo Alves when the Cougars clinched the point leaving their match unfinished.
In singles play, Chicago State won in the top three spots in the playing order in two sets clinching the overall match with a win at No. 3 singles.
Dinkov played at No. 4 singles pushing his match to three sets before losing to Alves 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 10-7.
Wallace secured the lone point of the match for EIU winning at No. 5 singles. He defeated Pahwa in three sets winning 6-1, 6-3.
Chicago State captured the final point in two sets at No. 6 singles.
EIU falls to 4-6 overall and will open conference play at home next weekend, March 18-19, hosting matches against Southern Indiana and Tennessee Tech at Darling Courts.
