Softball Win Streak Snapped At Lipscomb

Panthers fall 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon



NASHVILLE – Lipscomb scored twice in the bottom of the second inning with the runs standing up during a 3-1 win over Eastern Illinois that snapped the Panthers seven game win streak.
 
EIU (13-10) returns to action on Thursday and Friday with a three-game series at East Tennessee.  The series adjusted up one day due to expected weekend weather.
 
Lipscomb managed only three hits during the game but was able to manufacture the needed runs in the second.  The Bison took advantage of an error and walk to load the bases.  Briyana Wright then was hit by a pitch to score the first run.  Elise Shewmaker added a sacrifice fly in the inning to finish the scoring.
 
Kamrie Rich drove in the final Lipscomb run in the third with a sacrifice fly that scored Presley Leebrick after Leebrick reached on a triple down the right field line.
 
EIU cut into the Lipscomb lead in the sixth with Lindy Milkowski delivering an RBI single down the third base line to score Briana Gonzalez.  EIU placed runners at the corners in the inning but could not produce any additional runs.  EIU left five runners on base in the game including four in scoring position.
 
The Panthers were held to just four hits with Rachel Kaufman's double to lead off the second the lone Panthers extra base hit in the game.   Milkowski, Aryn Henke and Morgan Lewis added hits.
 
Alexa Rehmeier (4-3) suffered the loss in the circle.  Kaufman pitched the final three innings of scoreless relief allowing one hit with two strikeouts. 
 
Josey Polk had two of Lipscomb's three hits.  Emily Yakubowski (7-5) went the distance for the win for the Bison who improved to 10-12.
