MOREHEAD, Ky. - Eastern Illinois beach volleyball (2-8, 1-7 OVC) dropped a pair of hard fought matches on Friday when they traveled to the last Ohio Valley Conference Weekend of the season hosted by Morehead State.
The Panthers dropped their first match to the host team by a score of 1-4 in the early morning. They also lost in close sets to Chattanooga by a score of 1-4.
EASTERN ILLINOIS 1 - 4 MOREHEAD STATE
Christina Martinez Mundo and
Tori Mohesky were able to pull off an impressive dual win at the No. 1 position when they took down Morehead State's pair of Sydney Wyman and Trinity Miller with set scores of 21-17 and 21-15.
Despite losing in two sets,
Kate Dean and
Catalina Rochaix kept it close with scores of 16-21 and 19-21 in the five pairing against Brenna Bommer and Andrea Grimes.
Two pairs for Eastern Illinois took at least one of their sets in overtime but came up just short.
Ella Collins and
Emily Wilcox took their first set into extra time at the number four position before losing 24-26. They would go on to drop the second set by a score of 13-21.
No. 2 pair
Kaitlyn Flynn and
Sylvia Hasz kept in competitive in the final frame with a score of 22-24, but just came up short.
EASTERN ILLINOIS 1 - 4 CHATTANOOGA
Catalina Rochaix and
Kate Dean bounced back after a two set loss to Morehead State earlier in the day by winning in three sets at the No. 5 spot versus Chattanooga. Dean and Rochaix scored 17-21, 21-14 and 15-12. They were the only match of the day to go to three sets.
Giovana Larregui Lopez and
Sylvia Hasz were a new pair that made its debut at the No. 3 spot and were competitive. With scores of 16-21 and 21-23 they kept it close with the Mocs to make things interesting.
Continuing their trend of close matches,
Ella Collins and
Emily Wilcox were able to keep it close with scores of 24-26 and 18-21. The pair had won their last two matches prior to Friday's matches.
The Panthers will be back tomorrow starting at 11:00 a.m. for the final day of the OVC Weekend at Morehead State. EIU will play UT Martin in the morning and Tennessee Tech at 3:00 p.m.
