Panthers Drop Final Game At Southern Indiana 8-15

EIU falls to 4-8 in OVC play

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Eastern Illinois baseball (22-15, 4-8 OVC) dropped its final game of a three game series at Southern Indiana (13-26, 5-10 OVC) by a final score of 15-8. USI won the overall series 2-1 after splitting yesterday's double header.

Despite the loss, EIU still had big performances at the plate including Ryan Ignoffo's two home run day. Ignoffo went 3-4 at the plate while driving home three runs and scoring four of his own. Lincoln Riley also had a home run for Eastern.

Starting pitcher Blake Malatestinic (L, 2-4) suffered the loss in only 2.1 innings of action. Malatestinic allowed seven hits and six runs (four earned) on Sunday. Matthew Moore (W, 1-0) picked up the win in relief for Southern Indiana.

QUICK STATS
Ryan Ignoffo: 3-4, 2 HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 4 R, BB
Lincoln Riley: 1-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R
Kolten Poorman: 3-5, 3 RBI, 2 2B
Blake Malatestinic: L (2-4), 2.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 4 ER, K

Eastern quickly jumped out to a lead in the top of the first inning with the first of two Ryan Ignoffo home runs. Malatestinic would get out of a jam early by leaving a runner stranded after a runner was caught stealing by Ben Gallaher.

Southern Indiana would take the lead in the second after a two-run home run by Parker Stroh off of Malatestinic. Eastern Illinois would take the lead back in the third with a two RBI single by Poorman, but USI regained control after plating four in the bottom of the third.

Colton Coca entered the game on the mound for the Panthers after taking over for Malatestinic. In two innings of work, he allowed seven runs on five hits. USI scored eight runs in the fifth inning to put the score at 15-4.

EIU scored four more runs in the game after the six inning, including Ignoffo's second home run of the afternoon but it was not enough to take down the screaming Eagles.

The Panthers would score eight runs on 12 hits with one error. USI would score 15 runs on 14 hits with no errors. EIU will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Butler for a midweek game. For more updates go to eiupanthers.com.
