MARTIN, Tenn. - Eastern Illinois beach volleyball battled in their opening round loss at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships against No. 3 seeded Morehead State by a score of 3-0. The OVC Tournament is hosted in Martin, Tenn. this season.
Kate Dean and
Catalina Rochaix competed in the number five dual against MSU's Peyton Kennedy and Brenna Bommer. The duo finished with scores of 15-21 and 10-21 to close out the first dual of the match.
Ella Collins and
Emily Wilcox stuck at their normal number four pairing and would fall in two sets to Irene Wogenstahl and Andrea Grimes from Morehead State. Both fought until the end with scores of 13-21 and 15-21.
The final dual match was won in the number two matchup between Morehead State's Kinsey McAfee and Bridget Bessler against
Kaitlyn Flynn and
Lilli Amettis from the Panthers. The duo finished with set scores of 13-21 and 7-21.
Despite the final two duals going unfinished,
Giovana Larregui Lopez and
Sylvia Hasz were leading at the number three spot before Morehead State clinched the victory. The Panthers had won the first set 21-14 and had a 15-13 advantage in the second.
Eastern Illinois will be back in action during the double elimination tournament as they will play tomorrow, April 28 at 10:00 a.m. against the loser between No. 1 UT Martin and No. 4 Tennessee Tech. For more information go to eiupanthers.com.
