Panthers End Beach Season At OVC Championships

EIU battles in 1-3 loss against No. 4 Tennessee Tech

MARTIN, Tenn. - Eastern Illinois beach volleyball ended its season Friday morning at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships with a 1-3 loss against No. 4 Tennessee Tech. Eastern Illinois pushed the Golden Eagles to close duals in all five matches.

Giovana Laregui Lopez and Sylvia Hasz got Eastern Illinois on the board during the No. 3 pairs against TTU's Brooke Amann and Madolyn Isringhausen. The duo won in two sets with scores of 21-15 and 21-10. It marked the second ever dual win for EIU at the conference championships.

In the first dual of the morning, the No. 5 pair of Kate Dean and Catalina Rochaix battled to a tough three set loss that gave EIU a chance to push the match to five. Dean and Rochaix ended with set scores of 14-21, 22-20 and 13-15.

Despite not finishing their dual, Kaitlyn Flynn and Lilli Amettis were tied in the third set 4-4 before the Golden Eagles took the overall victory. Flynn and Amettis jumped out to a lead in the first set with a 21-13 victory. TTU's Aleeya Jones and Bella Powell took the second set 11-21.

Tennessee Tech clinched the victory at the number one pair when Christina Martinez Mundo and Tori Mohesky fell after hanging tough throughout. The final set scores of the season were 18-21 and 14-21.

The Panthers end their second ever season in school history with a 2-12 record which included their first victory in program history (March 28 vs. McKendree) and their first OVC match win against Lindenwood (April 2).
