Women's Tennis Win Streak Snapped On Senior Day

Panthers honor five senior players following home match

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis had its five match win streak snapped on Saturday as the Panthers honored their senior class following the final home match of the regular season.
 
EIU lost to SIUE 5-2 as the Panthers fell to 12-9 overall, 3-1 in the OVC.   SIUE improved to 15-4 overall and 4-1 in the OVC as they are now done with conference play.
 
The Cougars won the doubles point winning two of three matches.   SIUE opened winning at No. 1 doubles before EIU countered with a win at No. 3 doubles by Lauren Ellis and Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova.  EIU's doubles team won 6-3.   SIUE clinched the point winning at No. 2 doubles.
 
Ellis and Bukraba-Ulanova would each pick up the two points for EIU in singles play with the wins coming after SIUE had clinched the match.
 
Bukraba-Ulanova won at No. 2 singles in a three-set win over Margaux Guibal Britt.  Bukraba-Ulanova won 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.
 
Ellis wrapped up the day winning in three full sets over Fabiola Perez.  Ellis won 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
 
Addison Brown battled at No. 4 singles losing in two sets, but the second set was in a tie-break, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).   Christine Gouws was in her match at No. 1 singles losing 7-5 in the opening set before falling 6-2 in the second.
 
EIU honored seniors Gouws, Bukraba-Ulanova, Ellis, Brittany Steven and Claire Perez-Korinko following the match. EIU has one regular season match remaining and then the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.  EIU has already locked up its first winning season since the 2017 season.
