The Eastern Illinois baseball team earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award presented by Sports Attack for its work in the classroom during the 2022-23 season. The Panthers received the award for the third straight year
To receive the distinction, a team must be a high school or college institution, be an ABCA member and have maintained at least a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) or better throughout the 2022-23 season.
In total, more than 450 collegiate programs were recognized, with 130 coming from the Division I level.
EIU held a 3.31 team GPA to earn the award this season.
The Panthers enjoyed a successful 2023 campaign winning a school record 38 games, capturing the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and making the program's third NCAA Tournament appearance at the Division I level.
