Morehead State Beats EIU At The Buzzer, 69-67

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Ellie Buzzelle sank her fifth 3-pointer of the night with 9.7 seconds left in regulation only to see visiting Morehead State hit a bucket with 3.9 seconds left to escape Groniger Arena with a 69-67 win over EIU.

Buzzelle scored 20 points going 5-of-5 on 3-pointers.  Macy McGlone had her 12th double-double of the season with ten points, 14 rebounds.

Miah Monahan and Charita "Tiny" Lewis added double figures with Monahan scoring 15 and Lewis ten.

Hallie Rhodes hit the game winner for the Eagles in the final seconds scoring 14 points, one of four Morehead State players in double figures.

In the first quarter Rhodes sparked a 9-0 Morehead State run as the Eagles led 24-14 at the end of one and 36-35 at the half.
 
Monahan, Buzzelle and Lewis all hit 3-pointers in the final two minutes of the second quarter to cut a double digit deficit down to one point. EIU finished the night 9-of-19 from 3-point range.
 
Morehead State would hold the lead the entire third quarter with Monahan hitting a jumper with 8:18 to play in the game to give the Panthers their first second half lead.
 
The two teams traded the lead three times in the final quarter with Buzzelle sinking a 3-pointer with 59 seconds left to cut it to a one score game at 67-64.  She knotted the game at 67-67 with her 3-pointer in the final ten seconds.
 
Skylar Barnes led MSU with 16 points.  Veronica Charles and Melissa Secchiaroli each scored ten for the Eagles who improved to 8-7 overall, 3-1 in the OVC.
 
EIU is now 5-12 overall, 2-2 in the OVC.
