Eastern Illinois women's tennis was edged by IUPUI on Sunday in a match played at the Danville Tennis Center. IUPUI won 4-3.
The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match winning the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles. The match at No. 1 singles was tied 5-5 and left unfinished after EIU clinched the match.
EIU won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles with
Aleyla Wooten and
Michelle Kostadinova playing in that spot in the rotation. EIU clinched at No. 3 doubles with
Luisa Renovales Salazar and
Charleigh Fay winning 6-4
IUPUI would pick up points in the match winning the top four spots in the playing order to win the overall match.
EIU captured its two additional points winning at No. 5 and 6 singles. Kostadinova won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Renovalas Salazar won at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-3.
The match would come down to the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions with each going three sets before IUPUI won both.
