The Eastern Illinois mens soccer team (1-10-1, OVC 0-6) dropped 2-0 to Liberty (6-5-1, OVC 4-2) on Kick Cancer Night at Osborne Stadium on Thursday night.
The Flames turned up the pressure early, jumping out to a lead in the first two minutes of the match. Luke Eberle was able to capitalize on a penalty kick for LU after a Panther foul inside the box.
EIU continued to push on the offensive end, as Jake Pollack and
Jackson Liley both tested the Liberty goalkeeper in the first half. The Flames would find the back of the net once again in the 37' minute as Gabe Findley extended the lead to 2-0 headed into the break.
The second half remained an even battle, as both teams kept up the pressure throughout. EIU gave the Flames trouble in the final 10 minutes, as
Adam Boykin fired another shot on goal after consistent Panther pressure.
Liberty was able to keep EIU out of the net and close out the night with a 2-0 victory. Eastern Illinois is back in action on Sunday afternoon in Macomb as they take on Western Illinois at 2:30pm.
