Men's Soccer Falls Short 2-0 to Lindenwood

Set to host SIUE for Senior Day on Sunday

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Eastern Illinois men's soccer team (2-11-2, OVC 1-7-1) fell short 2-0 to Lindenwood (9-5-3, OVC 5-2-2) on Thursday afternoon at Lakeside Field. The Lions take both games of the season series as the Panthers fight to keep their OVC tournament hopes alive.

EIU began the first half strong, putting the pressure on LU goalkeeper Enzo Gil in the first couple minutes of the match. Sebastian Khoury fired a shot above the crossbar in the third minute as the Panthers continued to push in the offensive zone.

Lindenwood responded quickly, recording five total shots in the initial period. Chad Smith received the start in goal for Eastern Illinois and logged two first-half saves as the contest entered halftime tied at 0-0.

Coming out of the break, the contest remained even until Isaac Johnson was able to find the back of the net in the 72' minute to log the Lions first goal of the afternoon. The Lions would find success once again in the 79' minute, capitalizing after a Panther foul inside the box led to a penalty kick for Ethan Blake. This extended the LU lead to 2-0 before standing tall in the final 10 minutes to secure the victory.

Felipe Kerr Lourenco, Casey Welage, Adam Boykin, and Josh Simon all recorded shots on goal to lead Eastern Illinois offensive efforts. The Panthers are back in action for Senior Day on Sunday afternoon as they are set to host SIUE at 1pm.
