This Saturday, former Eastern Illinois distance runner Britney (Whitehead) Romero, will compete in the US Olympic Marathon Team Trials in Orlando, Florida.
Romero was an essential member of the EIU Track & Field and Cross Country teams between 2009 and 2012, helping them to secure multiple OVC Championships. Highlights of her collegiate career include being a 2-time NCAA Regional qualifier and breaking the EIU school record for both the steeplechase and 1500m events.
Britney was an elementary education major, a 2013 and 2015 graduate, and is married to fellow EIU Track & Field alum, Donald Romero. Presently, she runs with Windrunners Chicago and met the qualification for the trials at the 2023 Bank of America Chicago Marathon with a time of 2:36:07.
