Eastern Illinois grabbed a two-point lead midway through the opening half but after a short Morehead State run, the Panthers could never take back the lead falling 69-57 at Morehead State.
Kyndall Davis gave the Panthers a 16-14 lead with 10:14 left in the opening half. Davis posted his second straight double-double of the week finishing with 19 points and ten rebounds.
Morehead State led 36-28 at the half. The Eagles pulled out to a 41-30 lead on a 3-pointer by Eddie Ricks III with 18:22 left in the game.
EIU then went on a 10-1 run cutting the Morehead State lead to 42-40 with 15:01 to play on a jumper by
Corey Sawyer Jr. He also finished in double figures for the Panthers with 13 points.
EIU had a couple more opportunities to cut into the lead with the final chance with 6:11 remaining when the Panthers trailed 54-50 and had the ball. EIU was forced into a turnover and could never get within one possession in the final minutes.
Morehead State shot 52 percent for the game and was 17-of-23 from the foul line. Kalil Thomas hit a pair big 3-pointers in the final five minutes to score 14 points, one of three Morehead State players in double figures. Riley Minix led the Eagles with 26 points, 10 rebounds. Zach Iyeyemi added 14.
EIU fell to 11-14 overall, 5-7 in the OVC. MSU improved to 20-5, 11-1 in the OVC.
