Eastern Illinois men's tennis lost both of its Saturday matches in DeKalb, Ill., on Saturday afternoon. EIU lost the morning opener to host Northern Illinois, 6-1. EIU lost the late afternoon match 4-3 to Lewis.
NORTHERN ILLINOIS 6, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1
Eastern Illinois men's tennis lost the first of two matches at Northern Illinois on Saturday morning falling to Northern Illinois, 6-1. EIU will face Lewis in the afternoon to wrap up weekend play.
NIU won the doubles point winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles leaving the No. 3 match unfinished with
Cameron Slabbert and
Zach White playing at No. 3 for the Panthers.
White picked up the lone point in the match for EIU winning at No. 6 singles over Luke Weller. White dropped the opening set 6-3 before rebounding to win the second set 6-3 and then the tie-break third set 1-0 (with a 10-5 tiebreak win).
Slabbert battled at No. 2 singles falling to Mikael Vollbach 6-1, 6-4.
Jon William Karlstad lost at No. 5 singles to Sam Klein, 6-1, 6-3.
LEWIS 4, EASTERN ILLINOIS 3
Eastern Illinois dropped its second match of the day in a battle with Lewis as the Panthers fell 4-3.
EIU opened winning the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Cameron Slabbert and
Zach White had a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Pau Riera and
Thomas Wallace clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
The match would be decided in singles play as Lewis won four of the six points to claim the match.
EIU won at No. 1 singles with Riera winning 6-4, 6-4 over Indrek Soome.
The Panthers added the other win by
Tyler Carlin at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Tatenda Mutetwa.
Three of the singles matches would come down to three sets before they were decided with Lewis winning each of those at No. 2 singles, No. 3 singles and No. 6 singles.
Lewis is now 2-2 on the season. EIU fell to 1-6.
