Eastern Illinois men's tennis battled and almost posted a rare tie on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers lost 4-2 at Marquette once again playing short-handed due to illness to several players.
EIU lost the doubles point as they did not field a No. 3 doubles team before losing at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, neither team fielded a No. 6 player so only five singles points were contested.
EIU picked up wins at the bottom of the order with wins at No. 4 singles by
Zach White and No. 5 singles by
William Hays.
It was the second straight singles win for White as he beat Nathan Balthazor, 6-2, 7-5.
Hays won at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Teddy Wong.
Thomas Wallace fell at No. 3 singles in two sets but lost the second in a tie-break losing 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
At No. 1 singles
Pau Riera battled before falling in three sets to Blake Roegner. Roegner won the match 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
