COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Another down to the wire finish between Eastern Illinois and Tennessee Tech women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at the Eblen Center.
In the first meeting this season in Charleston it was
Macy McGlone with a last second shot to give EIU the home win.
On Saturday for senior day at Tennessee Tech it was one of the Golden Eagles senior players that provided a big shot in TTU's 75-73 win.
EIU trailed by 13 points in the first half but closed the opening half with a 14-0 run to lead 32-29 at the half.
TTU opened the second half with a 13-0 run of its own with Maaliya Owens triggering the run with a 3-pointer. Owens had 21 points for the Golden Eagles.
The Panthers cut the lead down to two with 4:03 left in the game on a McGlone basket. The junior posted a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds including going 11-of-12 at the foul line.
Ellie Buzzelle sank a 3-pointer with 2:27 left in the game to give EIU a 68-67 lead. Peyton Carter grabbed an offensive rebound on the next TTU possession and her put-back basket gave the Golden Eagles a 69-68 lead.Â
Anna Walker knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:04 left in the game to make it a two-possession game and TTU made free throws in the final 18 seconds to hold on for the win.
Buzzelle knocked down a final 3-pointer with 0.9 seconds left to finish with ten points.Â
Sydney-James Desroches had three 3-pointers off the bench fishing with nine.
Four TTU players finished in double figures as the Golden Eagles improved to 15-12 overall, 10-6 in the OVC.
EIU is now 13-16 overall, 10-6 in the OVC.
