Eastern Illinois heads into the final week of the regular season with two games remaining as they host SIUE on Tuesday night followed by a road game at Western Illinois on Thursday evening. EIU has a bye on the final Saturday of the regular season as the 11-member OVC schedule has one team each week with a weekend bye. EIU looks to lock up the No. 7 seed in the upcoming tournament with a win in either game as they clinched a spot in the eight-team field on Saturday. EIU is 13-16 on the year, 7-9 in the OVC. Two wins to end the season would give the Panthers a .500 OVC record for the first time since the 2019-20 season, the last time they made the OVC Tournament field. SIUE enters at 16-13 overall, 9-7 in the OVC sitting in sixth place in the OVC race.
DAVIS WITH ANOTHER SATURDAY DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Saturdays in February have been kind to junior wing
Kyndall Davis as he has posted double-doubles on three consecutive Saturdays and four double-doubles in his last six games. This past Saturday at Tennessee Tech he matched his career high with 12 rebounds while coming up one point shy of matching his career scoring high finishing with 25 points. Over the last six games Davis is averaging 19.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. The 25 points marked the fourth time this season Davis has gone over the 20-point mark in a game with a high of 26 against Southeast Missouri. He opened OVC play with 23 points at SIUE and added a 20-point game at Southern Indiana as part of his first career double-double (10 rebounds). In addition to his work scoring and on the glass, Davis had five steals at Tennessee Tech moving him up to third in the OVC this season with 44 steals.
OVC TOURNAMENT BID LOCKED UP
Eastern Illinois would have preferred to lock up a bid to the upcoming OVC Tournament with a win during its weekend trip to Tennessee but despite coming up just short in both contests, the Panthers still locked up a bid to the OVC event in Evansville on March 6-9. EIU will be making its 18th overall OVC Tournament appearance and first since the 2019-20 season. EIU won the 2001 OVC Tournament to make its second NCAA Tournament appearance in school history.
