Eastern Illinois pitcher
Zane Robbins has been named to the D1Baseball Top 50 Relief Pitchers list ahead of the 2024 season. The senior was ranked as the 16th best reliever in the nation.
Robbins appeared in 27 games for the Panthers last season, all in relief, and recorded a 4-1 record with a team-leading 1.57 ERA. He struck out 50 batters in 34.1 innings of work for an average of 13.20 strikeouts per nine innings, which is the highest ratio in school history. He led the OVC in saves with seven and is currently tied for the school-record in career saves with a total of 18.
He made four appearances with one win and two saves during EIU's OVC Tournament run, recording nine strikeouts, and only allowing one run in 5.2 inning of relief work to help Eastern to their first NCAA Regional appearance since 2008. The performance earned him All-OVC Tournament honors.
Robbins was a 2023 ABCA All-Region and First-Team All-OVC selection.
He was recently named to the OVC Preseason All-Conference First-Team.
The Panthers are set to open up the 2024 campaign next weekend when they take on Florida A&M in Tallahassee. The first game is set for Friday, February 16th at 3 p.m.Â
