Softball Loses Two On Saturday To Drop Series

Panthers fall in Saturday doubleheader at SIUE



Eastern Illinois softball had its eight game OVC win streak snapped on Saturday as the Panthers lost a pair of games at SIUE to drop the weekend series to the Cougars.
 
SIUE won the opener 12-2 before rallying in the seventh of game two to win 5-4.
 
GAME ONE
SIUE took advantage of several Eastern Illinois errors to jump out to a 6-0 lead and pull away for a 12-2 win.
 
Kaylynn Salyars had the big hit in the first inning with a two run single to left.  SIUE would go up 7-0 in the second inning on a Danielle Shuey single to center.
 
EIU cracked the scoreboard in the top of the third with a solo homer by Kendall Grover.  Aryn Henke drove in the Panthers other run in the fourth making it 9-2 at the time.
 
Sophie Cerveny scored on the Henke single.  Cerveny had two hits to lead EIU in game one as Sydney Baalman (2-10) limited EIU to five hits.
 
Olivia Price (6-7) took the loss for EIU as the Panthers pitching staff had seven of the 12 runs unearned on the day.
 
Grace Lueke closed the scoring in the fourth for SIUE with a 3-run home run.  Lueke drove in four in the game.
 
GAME TWO
SIUE rallied to score one in the sixth and two in the seventh to win the series against EIU with a 5-4 win.
 
The Cougars loaded the bases in the seventh and tied the game at 4-4 on a base hit by Jenna Herron.   Anna Henderson would deliver a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run.
 
EIU had jumped on top 4-0 in the game on a big day by Kendall Grover at the plate.  Grover opened the game with a triple and scored on a home run by Jadin Justman.
 
Grover added a pair of RBI doubles in the second and fourth inning.
 
Henderson drove in the first of her two runs in the game for SIUE in the fourth scoring an unearned run for the Cougars.  Emma Henderson added an RBI in the sixth to close the gap to 4-3.
 
Rachel Kaufman (2-2) suffered the loss in relief.  Sydney Baalman (3-10) pitched one scoreless inning of relief for the win.
 
Grover was 3-for-3 at the plate in the game with two RBI.  McKenzie Oslanzi added two hits.
 
Paige Rocha was 3-for-4.
