Eastern Illinois women's tennis came up just short as the Panthers lost 4-2 in the opening round of the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament against Southern Indiana.
EIU won the opening point with a win in doubles to take a 1-0 lead in the match. After USI won at No. 3 doubles, EIU rallied to clinch the point winning at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles.
Addison Brown and
Jemma Booth won 6-4 at the No.1 doubles position to win the overall point.Â
Aleyla Wooten and
Charleigh Fay won 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
EIU extended its lead to 2-0 in the match with a win by Brown at No. 1 singles beating Lauren Rowe 6-3, 6-3.
Southern Indiana won the next three matches in two sets with wins at No. 5, No. 6 and No. 4 singles.
The Screaming Eagles clinched the match with a three-set win at No. 3 singles. Antonia Ferrari beat Booth 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 to win the overall match for USI.
Wooten was leading her match at No. 2 singles against Rachel McCorkle when the match was left unfinished.
