Tennessee Tech scored three runs in the first inning and that would be all the offense the Golden Eagles would need as they snapped Eastern Illinois nine-game win streak with a 7-1 win on Sunday at Williams Field.
Â
Sydney Kirby connected for a three-run home run in the first as part of her two-hit, four RBI day.
Â
EIU cut into the lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by
Rachel Kaufman.
Â
Kaufman's hit would be one of just three the Panthers had in the game against TTU starter Emily York (7-4).Â
Sophie Cerveny had the other two hits going 2-for-3.
Â
York tossed the complete game with nine strike outs.Â
Olivia Price took the loss for EIU falling to 8-8 on the season.
Â
TTU added four more runs in the second taking advantage of an EIU error as all four were unearned. Carmen Betts had the big hit in the inning with a two-run double.
Â
Karlie McKenzie closed the game in relief for EIU tossing 5.1 innings of scoreless releif with seven strike outs.
Â
EIU falls to 32-13 overall, 16-5 in the OVC. TTU is now 19-20 overall, 9-12 in the OVC.
